Temporary cedar picket?

One of our area builders had a client renting a house with some younger kids. The parents didn’t want their kids falling off the landscaping into the lower portions. The builders wanted something that was temporary so they could remove it later if needed. So rather than using cement we just used longer posts and tamped the dirt back around.

Not your typical cedar fence…

This customer saw a 4 foot version of this fence and loved how it looked but wanted it taller for more privacy so we installed a 6 foot version. To draw attention to the posts and add character we installed the sections between the posts and added cedar/copper caps.

Garden Fence

A customer of ours came to us asking if we could replicate a garden fence they saw on the This Old House website. The overall construction is pretty simple but still takes a little time to complete. Welded wire fence is stapled to a 2×4 rail and 4×4 post framework. Custom arched gates with Snug Cottage gate hardware give this project it’s final look.

Custom Cedar Picket Fence

Introducing the “Parkwood” fence. Parkwood Upjohn Elementary came to me wanting a unique fence for around their new garden area and Farm N Garden is willing to build these custom fences people desire. So we came up with a fence with quite a few details that produced multiple shadow lines. The face of the top trim board and back rail incorporated a bead detail cut by running the boards through a molding head cutter on our table saw. The top cap consists of a lower piece and peeked roof like cap board. To compliment the round window features of the school we included a concave gate. This served to purposes, the aformentioned complimenting of the schools window details and allowed the younger kids to still be able to see over the shorter gate. The main structure of the fence was built using Western Red Cedar. This fence and garden area is located on the south side of the school building.

Neighbor Friendly Fencing

Balancing neighbor relationships with the need for privacy can be tricky.  Last fall we helped a client in Kalamazoo meet this need with a Prairie Hill Custom Cedar Privacy Fence.  This fence featured tongue & grooved Western red cedar boards with Nantucket post finials and Azek 4 piece trim cap and  Snug Cottage gate hardware.  The concave top line allows for both friendly conversation with a neighbor and sufficient privacy of our client.  Western red cedar wood fence will offer decades of both functional and attractive value resisting warping and aging gracefully to gray.
